About LateriteAI
Research-grade AI tools, built by researchers.
Built inside Laterite. Used in real research workflows. Designed for reviewable, traceable outputs.
Laterite
A research firm first.
Laterite is a data, research, and analytics firm founded in Rwanda in 2010. We support governments, foundations, NGOs, universities, research organizations, and social impact teams with full-cycle research and evaluations - from data collection to analysis, learning, and decision-making.
Our approach is structured, data-intensive, and embedded in local context. With teams across Africa, Latin America, and Europe, Laterite combines field systems, research design, analytics, and policy thinking to turn data into evidence that can be used.
LateriteAI extends this mission by bringing research-grade AI tools to the practical work of producing, checking, synthesizing, and using evidence.

Our approach
Practical AI, held to a research standard.
LateriteAI is built around a simple idea: AI should make research more transparent, not more opaque. Our tools help teams inspect evidence, document choices, improve consistency, and move faster through repetitive work - while keeping expert judgment at the center.
01
Research quality first
AI outputs should be traceable, reviewable, and grounded in source material. Where possible, our agents preserve links to evidence, make assumptions visible, and support reproducible workflows.
02
Built around real research workflows
We build for tasks research teams already do: cleaning data, checking code, coding transcripts, reviewing surveys, synthesizing reports, writing literature reviews, translating research instruments, and organizing evidence in knowledge hubs.
03
Improved through use
Most LateriteAI tools are first tested by Laterite teams on live research workflows. We refine them through researcher feedback, model improvements, and better system design.
04
Human review by design
LateriteAI tools are assistants, not authorities. They help expert reviewers move faster, see more of the evidence, and document their decisions more clearly.
Analytics and Labs
Technology for better evidence, not weaker standards.
Laterite's Analytics team combines established research and evaluation methods with advances in AI, machine learning, econometrics, geospatial analysis, and data technology. The team builds tools that help researchers produce new outputs, engage with existing data, and put insights within reach of more decision-makers.
Laterite Labs explores what the next generation of research and knowledge systems could look like. This includes intelligent knowledge hubs, AI-assisted analysis workflows, digital assistants, and other tools that can make development knowledge more accessible and actionable.
The goal is not to replace expert judgment. It is to give researchers better tools: for repetitive tasks, for evidence synthesis, for collaboration, and for careful analysis.
Access
Open to organizations and institutional partners.
LateriteAI is currently focused on business and institutional users, including universities, research organizations, NGOs, foundations, and government partners. We are not yet offering open self-service access for individual users.
We expect access to broaden as the platform matures. For now, we work directly with partners to understand their workflows, configure the right tools, and make sure AI outputs meet a standard that research teams can trust.
